Stricken with polio and confined to a wheelchair for life, he never lost his interest in athletics. Beginning as a teenage sportswriter in high school, he covered athletics for both the Harrisburg and Gettysburg newspapers. Shortly after graduating from Gettysburg College, he joined the Gettysburg Times staff in 1931 and remained there for over 47 years, most of that time as sports editor. He was one of the founders of the GHS Booster Club, helped form the Adams County Independent Basketball League, and was secretary of the South Penn Sportswriters Association. Following his death in 1981, Gettysburg High School established a scholarship in his name awarded to a deserving athlete.
