Grace C. Kenney

A trailblazer for women’s athletics, she spent 33 of her 39 years at Gettysburg College building an impressive coaching record and producing a large number of national field hockey players. When she arrived in 1948, she coached field hockey and basketball and later volleyball. When she retired, seven more women’s sports were added to the program. Her coaching talents brought her invitations to lecture all over the U.S. as well as Europe and China. She lectured at a sports symposium in Athens, Greece and at the Olympic Academy in 1981 on the need for a permanent site for the Olympic Games.
