Lois G. Bowers

During 23 years at Gettysburg College, she coached five women’s sports for a combined record of 225 victories, 194 losses and 25 ties. She joined the staff in 1969, serving as head women’s basketball coach for four years; formed and coached the first women’s swimming team; later turned to coaching volleyball, field hockey and lacrosse. Her swimming teams won two conference championships and she produced several All-Americans; her 1980 field hockey team won the national championship, Gettysburg’s first national title. Prior to 1969, she coached field hockey, basketball and volleyball in York County as well as York Y and Lancaster Aquatic Club swimming.
