A 1942 Littlestown High School graduate, Bob drew attention in three sports: soccer, basketball and baseball. Back home from World War II, his 94 m.p.h. fastball caught the attention of the St. Louis Browns who invited him to spring training in 1949. Bob spent eight years in organized baseball in Springfield, IL; Erie, PA; Roswell, NM; and Carlsbad, NM. In 1951, he recorded a 24-6 season with Erie including a 21-game winning streak, a minor league record that still stands. In 1954, he built an 18-6 log, helping Carlsbad win the Longhorn League crown. Two years later, a 26-9 slate at Carlsbad wrapped up his professional career. He later pitched locally for Taneytown and Littlestown. His overall record: 260-100.
