Born and raised in Gettysburg, he became one of the country’s premier wrestling coaches, yet never wrestled. A 1926 Gettysburg High and 1930 Franklin and Marshall grad, he developed the first wrestling team at W. C. Mepham High on Long Island in 1937. For eight years his teams were undefeated, winning 100 consecutive matches. Following a loss, another 130 straight wins was recorded. Life Magazine featured him for his 254–4–1 record, including 37 consecutive regional and sectional titles. He revived the Gettysburg College wrestling program and immediately produced three All-Americans. He returned to Long Island in 1968 where he passed away in 1972.
