Ronald Kump

Fresh out of Gettysburg High School at the age of 16, Ron signed a contract with the St. Louis Cardinals. His first assignment was with Lebanon of North Atlantic League where he posted a 14-5 record and a 2.95 earned run average. After National Guard duty, he joined Allentown’s Class B team of the Interstate League in 1952. A year later found him in Columbus, GA playing Class B ball and being a unanimous choice for the All Star team. Pitching for Houston, Omaha and the Dodgers’ St. Paul AAA team followed. At Omaha, he had the league’s second best ERA. At St. Paul, he snapped a 26-game hitting streak of Hank Aaron. Ron also played for a half-dozen local sandlot teams after his pro career came to an end.
