Born in Gettysburg, Barbara was a true champion for women’s athletics. She served as a successful teacher, coach, and athletic administrator at both the high school and collegiate levels before making her mark at the University of Nebraska, where she worked for nearly three decades. Hired in 1978 as Nebraska’s Assistant Women’s Athletic Director, she was named Women’s Athletic Director in 1985 and served as Associate Athletic Director and Senior Women’s Administrator from 1994 until her retirement in 2005. A winner of numerous community and national awards, she was honored in 2000 with the Nebraska Athletic Department’s first Trailblazer Award, an honor since renamed in her memory. She passed away in March 2007
