Bob was a four-year letter winner in both football and track at Gettysburg High School. During his senior football season in 1952 Bob was named to the South Penn Football League first team and was named honorable mention to the Associated Press All-State Team. In track he was one of the top runners in the 100-yard dash, 220-yard dash and 880-yard relay. During and after his school days, until he entered the United States Marine Corps in 1957, Bob was the starting catcher for the Greenmount baseball team in the South Penn League and for three straight years was selected to the North’s All-Star team. Bob later served for 10 years as President of the South Penn Baseball League.
