Bob played four years of baseball at Delone Catholic High School, twelve years with Brushtown in the South Penn League and slow pitch and fast pitch softball in Hanover, until an accident in 1986 confined him to a wheelchair. He continued playing for several more years as a wheelchair athlete in basketball and softball, twice being named to the all-tournament teams. In 1984 he became the head softball coach at Delone, leading the team to 268 wins, one Blue Mountain league championship, three YAIAA league championships, 14 District 3 tournament appearances and one District 3 Championship in 1999. The Gettysburg Times, York Daily Record, York Dispatch and the Hanover Evening Sun have all named him coach of the year.
