A native of eastern Adams County, Charlie’s road to athletic fame took him from Bermudian Springs High School to Bloomsburg University. Before graduating from Bermudian in 1958, he lettered in basketball (scoring 50 points in one game), baseball and football. At East Stroudsburg, he played baseball and basketball, graduating in 1963. After graduation, he coached at Hanover High School, assisted at Gettysburg College and then moved to Bloomsburg where his 31-year coaching career resulted in a .659 winning percentage, fourth best among all Division II coaches. He guided the Huskies to nine Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference east championships, nine 20-game-win seasons and seven NCAA tournament appearances.
