After his 1950 graduation at Biglerville High School where he earned four letters each in basketball and baseball, Dan attended Gettysburg College where he lettered in baseball for three years as one of the mainstays on the pitching staff. Following his service in the military, he continued his playing career in the South Penn League at Arendtsville, Mummasburg and Mt. Holly. He began teaching at Biglerville in 1957 and as the head baseball coach he immediately won the league title. During the next several years he coached at one time football, basketball and baseball ending his coaching career in 1974. At this point he became the athletic trainer for all sports. Former students and athletes at the school fondly remember the care that Dan administered both as a coach and as an athletic trainer.
