Eugene M. Haas

Began illustrious career at Hanover High School as number one tennis player; center in football; and started on basketball team which won back-to-back South Penn titles; All-Conference in football and basketball. Four-year football and basketball player at Gettysburg College. Following graduation, entered military and was discharged in 1946. First coaching job at Biglerville High School; joined Alma Mater coaching staff in 1954; ascended to head football coach three years later. Haas-coached teams won the Middle Atlantic Conference crown and the coveted Lambert Cup. In 1968 became the school’s athletic director, playing key role in the formation of the Centennial Conference and served on NCAA football rules committee for two years.
