Began organized baseball with Navy Seabees in Philippines, 1943–46, playing with future stars Joe DiMaggio and Ferris Fain. Was an original member of Littlestown town team in 1947 and 1948, signed with St. Louis Browns. Professional career spanned 16 minor league years with Wausau, WI (hit .318, 11 HR), Class C Marshall, TX (.353, 13 HR), Class A Dayton, OH (.312, 17 HR, 108 RBI — a record which still stands and was named league MVP), and San Antonio, TX, Class B York, PA and Burlington, IW. Named to three All-Star squads. Re-broken ankle cut career short.
