One of Delone Catholic’s most versatile athletes, he earned a total of nine varsity letters in football, basketball and baseball; scored 35 touchdowns, rushed for 2,300 yards and was first team all-conference. After a year at the University of Maryland, he transferred to Villanova and played in the 1961 Sun Bowl and 1962 Liberty Bowl. He returned to coach football at Delone. In his first seven years he posted a 57-8-2 record, three undefeated seasons and three conference titles. He coached the Big 33 team with Joe Montana and beat Ohio, and was named Pennsylvania High School Coach of the Year by the National Football Clinic. John passed away in 2006.
