John E. “Jack” Emanuel

He began his athletic career in football and track at Harrisburg’s William Penn High. After graduation, he enlisted in the Marine Corps, serving in the South Pacific. Following the war, he entered Shippensburg College where he played football and ran track. He coached at Bishop McDevitt and William Penn Highs before matriculating to Biglerville High in 1957 where he remained until 1987. He left behind a record that included 15 winning grid seasons, three league titles and a 120–87 record. He was named coach of the year in 1966 and 1971. His track teams won conference crowns three times and division titles twice, and he produced eight PIAA gold medalists in the State meet. He also coached wrestling, cross country, and girls track.
