Coming from the hills of West Virginia, J.T. became one of the most influential men in Delone Catholic High School sports. While teaching history, he coached three sports. He began with basketball in 1957 and his 1964 team was 16–8, winning the Central Penn Catholic title. He coached baseball for 13 years and was an assistant football coach for 20 years. J.T. assumed the role of athletic director in 1960, a post he held until his death 18 years later in 1978. He was so revered that upon his death, the administration named the football stadium in his honor.
