He was a 1933 graduate of Gettysburg College. Arrived at Gettysburg from Lemasters, PA by way of Mercersburg and Perkiomen Prep Schools. So great were his accomplishments on the football field as an interior lineman, that he was named to the North squad of the very first North–South Collegiate All-Star football game in 1932. He played a major role in the Bullets’ success against Villanova, winning 3–0 in 1930, and was named to the Wildcat’s all-opponent team. Stoner also performed as a Gettysburg College wrestler with his greatest season in 1932 when he posted a 4–1 record including three pins. Because of his size, agility, speed and quickness, he was affectionately called the “Bull”.
