A native of New Oxford, Kevin started racing go-carts at age eight. Progressing to micro-sprints, he won over 100 features and numerous track championships from 1990 to 1994. He began driving sprint cars in 1995 and was named National Sprint Car Poll’s Rookie of the Year. By 1999 he had become one of the dominant drivers in Pennsylvania. Later that year he joined the prestigious World of Outlaws, enjoying immediate success by winning at the famous Eldora (OH) Speedway. His career was cut short by a fatal crash in September 1999. Both Lincoln and Trailway Speedways have an annual memorial race in his honor, and the World of Outlaws has renamed its rookie award to the “Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year” as a tribute.
