Len was a three-sport star at Littlestown HS. In football he helped the Bolts win two Blue Mountain League Championships, which included a perfect 11–0 season in 1974. He also served as captain of both the baseball and basketball teams. In 1975 he was named Littlestown’s Outstanding Male Athlete and was a member of the Pennsylvania Big 33 football team. Len received a full scholarship to Bucknell University where he was a three-year starter in baseball and football. As a catcher, he won batting titles in 1978 and 1979, setting a Bison record for hits in a season. He was named to the East Coast All-Star team as a senior. Following college, Len was an integral part of the Littlestown Dodgers’ decade-long domination of the South Penn Baseball League, where he was named the 1984 MVP.
