Gettysburg High graduate who lettered three years as end in football; named first team All-South Penn Conference; third team All-State; honorable mention high school All-American, all in 1953. Lettered four years in track as sprinter and hurdler, winning the state low hurdle title in 1954. Graduated from Gettysburg College in 1958 after earning three varsity letters each in football and track. Won Penn Relays hurdles and was two-way end in football. Distinguished military career led to 253 combat missions over Vietnam, commander of Thunderbirds flying team and rose to rank of major general before retiring.
