A two-year letter winning baseball player at Gettysburg High School and a 1- year player in the South Penn Baseball League, during which he was named to seven consecutive all-star games as an infielder, shaped Terry into one of the most successful high school baseball coaches in Adams County. During his 4-year stint at Littlestown High School his teams compiled a record of 32-23, winning the league championship in 1970. Terry then took over the reins at Gettysburg High School and over the next 26 years compiled a record of 200-124. His teams won the league championship 8 times (1973, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1980, 1981 and 1983). In addition to baseball he was the JV basketball coach for 3 years and golf coach for 5 years.
