Smith played football, basketball, and baseball for Delone Catholic, graduating in 2013. He went on to play baseball at Bucknell University. In high school, he had the distinction in his senior year of playing, and starting, for three district championship teams in his three sports. He was team captain of all three teams. He was the Hanover Evening Sun’s Player of the Year in football, and Gettysburg Times and Evening Sun Player of the Year in basketball and baseball. He left Delone as the career hits leader in baseball, with 136 career hits. Smith received the Philip Jones Award from the Gettysburg Times in 2013. He also became the career leader at Bucknell for hits (232), games played and games started (199), and at bats (778). Smith was named first team All-Patriot League in his junior and senior years. He went on to coach baseball as a hitting coach for Bucknell.
